We are looking for a committed and reliable Support Worker to look after our eight year-old daughter during the night, in our home.

To monitor her and keep her safe during the night, we have a small, dedicated team of specially-trained carers who are required to stay awake and look after her medical needs.

Due to their personal circumstances we are losing a member of our care team and are looking for an equally wonderful person to fill their shoes! The shift times are 9.15pm to 7.15pm (10 hour nights), however there can be some flexibility around this. There is also some flexibility over the nights covered, however you'll need to be available to work weekends on a scheduled rota and be able and willing to provide occasional cover for holidays/ leave.

Some experience in working with children or with complex medical care is an advantage. However, as this is a family home an excellent attitude, a helpful and understanding manner and commitment to the role is more important, as all training will be provided. Experience of undertaking waking nights is essential., The type of person we are looking for to support our daughter should have the following qualities but have been divided into 'essential' and 'desirable'. Please refer to them when completing your application.

    Essential
  • Full commitment to the role

  • Punctual and reliable

  • Excellent, accurate record keeping

  • Kind and considerate personality

  • Committed to confidentiality

  • Good communication, literacy and numeracy skills

  • Non-smoker from a non-smoking household

  • Interested in learning and training in medical care

  • Experience and ability to work waking nights

  • Ability to be reasonable and flexible in the nights covered

  • Desirable
  • Experience of caring for young children (professional or otherwise)

  • Qualifications and experience relevant to the role

  • Experience with complex care

  • Experience in lone working

  • Ability to provide care at short notice (minimum 1 days notice to allow rest before the start of shift)

  • About You

You will display a full commitment to the role and be available for the shifts you are expected to work. You will need to be able to work to instruction but, also be self-directed as once you have completed the training, you will be lone through the night. It is crucial that you feel able to stay awake and alert during what can be long and uneventful nights. You will display an attitude, approach and willingness to learning that means you will feel rewarded within the role. There is no smoking in our home, and you will need to be from a non-smoking household. Training and regular updates will be provided at the start and throughout the employment and you will make yourself available for these, as it will require amendments to your normal shift pattern.
