Full Job Description

Minimum 13 hours a week over 2 days, with flexibility to increase as needed to Maximum 26 hours over 4 days

Main duties

1. To be responsible for providing a high quality of teaching and learning,

Offering appropriate stimulation and support to al the children.

2. To draw up and to supervise the programme of pre-school activities and events to engage own key children

3. To be responsible for implementing systems of observation and record keeping of key children so that those children's progress and achievements are effectively and regularly assessed; to monitor the effectiveness of assessment procedures.

4. To participate in staff meetings and appraisals and to identify in-service training needs.

5. To assist in keeping properly maintained records, e.g. daily attendance register and accident records.

6. To liaise closely with their key children's parents/carers, informing them about the pre-school and its curriculum, exchanging information about children's progress and encouraging parents' involvement.

7. To work within the safe guarding policy in the pre-school and to ensure that any safe guarding concerns are acted upon immediately and appropriately.

8. To ensure that the pre-school is a safe environment for children, staff and others, that equipment is safe, standards of hygiene are high, health and safety procedures are implemented at all times .

9. To liase with the management committee,Ofsted services and other professionals as necessary and ensure that all legal and statutory requirements are implemented.

10. To contribute to and to implement all pre-school policies and procedures, especially those on equal opportunities and confidentiality.

11. To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the chair of the management committee/ manager, in accordance with the pre-school business plan/objectives.

NB: This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Applicants must be prepared to disclose any convictions they may have and any orders which have been made against them.

1. CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Pre-school Practice, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.

2. New job applicants - registration with the Independent Safeguarding Authority (from October 2009).

3. Existing employees - registration with the Independent Safeguarding Authority (from 2010).

4. A satisfactory enhanced DBS check which confirms suitability to work with children.

5. Sound understanding of the EYFS and ability to fully implement all of its requirements.

6. Sound understanding of child development and of children's needs.

7. Ability to plan and implement a pre-school curriculum, taking into account the SEN Code of Practice, child protection procedures and equal opportunity considerations.

8. Ability to work with parents and to encourage their involvement.

9. Commitment to and understanding of diversity and equality.

10. Ability to manage self and work calmly under pressure.

11. Ability to communicate effectively with a range of people.

12. Demonstrate professionalism in approach to managing all issues.

13. Ability to write clear reports.

Desirable criteria

Previous experience in a child care setting

First aid certificate
