Full Job Description

The College Merthyr Tydfil is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and dynamic individual to join our dedicated teaching team. You will be tasked with the teaching of L1 to L3 Electrical Installation under the examination boards of EAL and City and Guilds, experience of such is desirable along with assessor and possibly IQA status. You will also take a full and active role in the development of a new apprenticeship framework and bespoke courses in sustainable technology. Essentially you will having a vision and passion to projecting this highly popular and thriving area within the division to meeting the future demands of the industry and innovation in electrical installation and renewable energies. You will inspire and mentor students, preparing them for successful careers in the electrical industry.

A DBS check and EWC registration are requirements of this post.

Job purpose

To work within an ambitious and dedicated division in providing the highest forms of education, opportunities and support for our learners and local community. The post holder will have appropriate teaching qualifications (PGCE, QTS,DTLLS, Diploma in Education, etc.)and occupational competency to deliver L1 - L3 Electrical Installation in theory and in practice.

You will take responsibility for designing and updating course materials to ensure they align with industry standards regulations and qualifications boards. Explaining electrical concepts such as circuitry, wiring, safety protocols, and electrical codes. Demonstrating hands-on techniques for installing electrical systems, wiring, fixtures, and appliances. Emphasising the importance of safety procedures and regulations in electrical work. Assessing student progress, evaluating student performance through a variety of projects, and practical assessments.

Offering constructive feedback to students to help them improve their skills and understanding.

Assisting students with questions, problems, and challenges they encounter during their training and providing a positive and supportive tutorial programme.

Keeping abreast of developments in the electrical industry, including new technologies, codes, and regulations.

Supporting divisional staff in all quality procedures including IQA, planning, teaching and learning strategies and sharing good practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • To provide high standards in education, training and assessment of Electrical Installation candidates within the college environment and in the workplace.

  • A detailed knowledge of the Electrical Installation curriculum for L1 - L3 and its means of delivery

  • Assist with the delivery of Literacy and Numeracy skills in the division

  • To provide support for the quality assurance of Electrical Installation programmes.

  • To maintain a safe working environment at all times.

  • To liaise with employers, including visiting the workplace as directed.

  • To assist in the maintenance of learner recording systems including tracking documents.

  • To adhere to the College / Division schedule of assessment and reviews.

  • To assist with the College marketing and publicity as and where required and attend marketing and enrolment events.

  • To ensure that all relevant Health and Safety legislative requirements are in place, monitored and regularly reviewed to include up to date risk assessments/COSHH records.

  • To support learners in achieving their aspirations, promote Inspiring Skills competition participation and success.
