Full Job Description

We're on the lookout for a skilled data enthusiast to step into the pivotal position of Data Architect and play a vital role in our company's growth. Your primary responsibility will be to craft, refine, and manage the conceptual and logical frameworks of our data systems and models, aligning them seamlessly with our strategic vision. You'll be tasked with identifying, designing, and executing data solutions that resonate with our objectives while prioritising security and GDPR compliance.,

  • Responsible for designing and implementing effective database solutions and models to store and retrieve data including Data Lake and Data Warehousing

  • Assess database implementation procedures to ensure they comply with GDPR and data compliance

  • Design conceptual and logical data models and flowcharts

  • Provide advice to project teams and oversee the management of the full data production lifecycle

  • Responsible for making sure systems are designed in accordance with data architecture designs and principles

  • Accountable for designing solutions that meet people, process and technology needs and provide a route from the As-Is to the To-Be.

  • Accountable for ensuring the as is data platform landscape is fully understood, documented, and any risks managed

  • Accountable for producing quality, clear and consistent outputs that are required through all the phases of a delivery.

  • Agree and set the technical direction for the data platform landscape and solutions, for the short and long term, in collaboration with delivery and engineering teams

  • Accountable for ensuring data solutions and data models throughout the project or product life-cycle, are delivered effectively, and to agreed technical standards.

  • Accountable for ensuring stakeholders, technology teams, third parties and vendors, are aligned to the architectural vision.

  • Guide, influence and challenge the technology teams and stakeholders to understand the benefits, pros and cons of solution options.

  • Help to maintain integrity and security of the company's data

    Demonstrable professional Data experience as Data Architect, Lead Data Engineer, Data Scientist or similar role

  • Strong knowledge of database structure systems and data mining

  • In depth understanding of database structure principles

  • Strong hands-on experience in Data Warehouse and Data Lake technologies preferably around Azure

  • Extensive experience in implementing solutions around DataBricks, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, CosmosDB, Cognite Services, Storage Accounts, Azure Service bus, Azure Functions, Event Hub, Synapse and Azure Purview.

  • Excellent understanding of Microsoft SQL Server and data modelling

  • Experience of working with structured and unstructured datasets

  • Able to design a range of architectural solutions, with experience/knowledge in a number of the following:

  • + Data applications, workflows and landscapes, including ML and AI technologies
    + Data models and ETL
    + Data lake and data warehouse end to end architecture
    + Integration between back office solutions such as CRM, CMS and analytics.
    + Service-oriented and message-oriented integration.
    + Subscription and payment solutions
    + Editorial content production applications and workflows
  • Worked through the entire technology delivery lifecycle from inception to release and maintenance.

  • Developed Architecture in agile/iterative environments with experience of methodologies such as SCRUM, RUP, Lean and DSDM.

  • Skilled and structured in software and systems architecture with knowledge of UML, logical, physical, data modelling and pattern-based architecture design techniques.

  • Provides architectural direction, inspiring and engaging teams to deliver excellence.

  • Worked both in transformational programmes and in agile product environments, with awareness of methodologies such as PRINCE 2 and SCRUM

  • Strong at problem solving and able to design solutions, options and recommendations that meet a range of sometimes conflicting requirements.

  • Able to use visual techniques, both in diagrams and informally on the whiteboard, that make it easier to understand an architecture or reason with difficult problems.

  • Able to design solution that meet functional and non-functional requirements.

  • Able to drive key architectural outcomes, such as reusability, performance, separation of concerns, quality and integrity

  • Knowledgeable in software engineering techniques and able to work with engineers and architects to shape an architecture design

  • Demonstrable passion for emerging technologies and trends, with experience of exploiting these where applicable, Worked in the media, publishing, research, or a similar consumer focused industry. (Highly Desirable)
