Full Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join our Community Engagement Team. As a Community Engagement Team Member, you will play a vital role in raising awareness of community safety, delivering informative talks and advice, and fostering partnerships with various community organisations.

In this role, you will engage with a diverse range of community groups, individuals, and organisations to raise awareness of fire safety, cultural awareness and related issues. Through targeted outreach efforts and impactful communication strategies, you will empower community members with the knowledge and resources they need to mitigate risks. Your ability to navigate and respect the unique cultural nuances and needs within Tyne and Wear's diverse communities will be crucial in building trust and fostering meaningful connections.

As a Community Engagement Team Member, you will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, external partners, and community leaders to coordinate and deliver tailored programs and initiatives. By championing inclusivity, diversity, and accessibility, you will help ensure that our safety messages resonate with all members of the community, ultimately contributing to a safer and more resilient Tyne and Wear for everyone.

  • Provide awareness of community safety within targeted community groups.

  • Deliver community safety talks and advice to individuals and community groups.

  • Support partnerships with statutory and voluntary community organisations to enable contact with individuals and community groups.

  • Provide referrals for Home Fire Risk Assessments and additional advice within targeted community groups.

  • Provide effective communications internally and externally co-ordinating to exchange of information.

  • Support in the development of policy and initiatives to promote community safety within the community.

  • Attend evening and weekend events to deliver and promote the community safety agenda and recruitment as required.

  • Support and actively encourage recruitment opportunities within the community through the promotion of Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service core values.

  • Work in collaboration with the recruitment department with regard to workforce diversification

  • Collect data to support and inform management decision making.

  • Assist with the organisation, co-ordination and facilitation of events, conferences and seminars whenever necessary.

  • Provide administration in the collection and collation of relevant information to support evaluation and monitoring of community safety initiatives.

    Pre-employment checks

    The successful applicant will be subject to our pre-employment screening process which includes an occupational health medical and substance abuse test. We will also conduct right to work, DBS and reference checks.

    Please note, if you have been employed as an Operational Firefighter, and are in receipt of a Firefighter's pension, your pension may be abated if you are appointed. Abatement will occur if your pension plus your new salary adds up to more than your previous salary upon retirement - further details can be provided on request. It's also worth noting that you may also be affected by HMRC rules and should check with the HMRC to see if this applies to you.
