Full Job Description

We're looking for graphic designers to join our Communications and Marketing team on a casual basis. The role requires creative flair, up-to-date knowledge of industry software, and a professional approach to managing time, costs, and deadlines. As this is a casual position, the hours will vary depending on weekly work demands.
Responsibilities
You may need to manage more than one design brief at a time and typical activities include:

  • liaising with representatives from the Councils communications team to discuss the business objectives and requirements of the job;

  • estimating the time required to complete the work and providing quotes for clients;

  • working within the council's brand guidelines to develop new ideas and concepts

  • developing design briefs that suit the job purpose in line with brand guidelines;

  • thinking creatively to produce new ideas and concepts and developing interactive design;

  • using innovation to redefine a design brief within the constraints of cost and time;

  • presenting finalised ideas and concepts to representatives of the Council's communications team and/or customers;

  • working with a range of media and keeping up to date with emerging technologies;

  • proofreading to produce accurate and high-quality work;

  • demonstrating illustrative skills with rough sketches and working on layouts ready for print;

  • commissioning illustrators and photographers;

    The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience designing a variety of printed and digital materials, such as PDFs, brochures, and leaflets, using InDesign or comparable software on an Apple Mac. You must possess first-rate design and Mac skills, as reflected in job quality, turnaround time, and effectiveness of results, along with a relevant graphic design qualification.
    You should have a proven track record of advising on and implementing an organization's visual identity and brand guidelines, developing new ideas and concepts within these guidelines with successful results. Innovation is key, as you must be able to redefine design briefs within the constraints of cost and time.
    Experience in supporting projects with creative solutions to meet communication objectives on time and to a high standard is essential. In addition, effective interpersonal skills are necessary for working with colleagues to achieve positive outcomes, as well as strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Lastly, you should have analytical skills to interpret information, identify inaccuracies, and present complex information in a creative and visual way.
