Full Job Description

Are you looking for a new and exciting role working at the heart of Regulation and Compliance in a global business? Are you looking for a position that will build upon your experience and challenge you? Do you want to be part of our purpose - to enable a zero carbon, lower cost energy future?

Here at Drax we produce, source, use and sell biomass pellets as part of our global operations. We are committed to delivering sustainability best practice and compliance with local and international laws in relation to its activities and that's where you'll come in!

About the role

You'll join our Industry Frameworks and Supply Chain Compliance team, working with our team members in the UK, Canada and US. Your role will be based around due diligence and assurance, establishing, implementing, maintaining (and continuously improving) effective compliance programmes relating to sourcing, supply and consumption activities and ensure our processes, controls and reporting/verification frameworks are robust and resilient.

You'll work in partnership with business leaders and key internal stakeholders across our global operations to ensure our compliance programmes are aligned to the organisation's strategy and can be practically implemented. This will be achieved through an in-depth understanding of the biomass production, use and sale operations, combined with comprehensive knowledge of biomass certification, regulatory legislation and best practice. You'll ensure processes and controls are suitable and data provision/reporting meets the Group's requirements.

Supporting the team's primary objective, you'll ensure compliance with the legal and regulatory obligations applicable to the Group relating to pellet supplier due diligence, biomass certification (PEFC, FSC, SBP), chain of custody, greenhouse gas emissions verification and renewable support schemes in the UK. You'll play a key part in developing future programmes for biomass sustainability verification programmes for carbon capture operations and CDRs (carbon dioxide removals).

Contributing to the verification and audit programmes, you'll liaise with the Sustainability team and pellet buyers on emerging issues on Biomass policy, to ensure Drax's operations meet with that policy.

In this exciting role, you'll be working at the heart of policy, regulation and compliance here at Drax with a remit that spans no bounds! On a day-to-day basis you'll collaborate with a wide variety of stakeholders in our business and teams across Sustainability, Corporate Affairs, Operations, Procurement and the Finance team to name just a few. This role really does pack in a huge variety and you will become proficient in understanding the end to end global supply chain for biomass.

You'll ideally be educated to degree level or equivalent and have demonstrable experience in developing appropriate and proportionate controls that meet stringent regulatory requirements. You might already have experience in forest/biomass certification schemes, or be working in audit/assurance and looking for a new opportunity. You'll have the aptitude to build an excellent working knowledge of the UK and International regulatory regimes for Biomass sourcing, supply and use.

As part of the wider Regulation and Compliance team, you'll be confident in building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, alongside representing the overall Industry Frameworks workplan. You'll identify emerging risks, so that effective controls and mitigation plans can be agreed, developed and implemented.

Methodical and Process-oriented; you'll be analytical; innovative and adaptive in a fast-paced environment and you'll be both a good technical communicator and storyteller for less specialist audiences. Comfortable with outreach and networking with wider standards and stakeholder community, you'll communicate with clarity and embed change, whilst influencing and driving the right behaviours.
