Full Job Description

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a part-time Gallery Assistant to join our new Pole Star Gallery sales team in Keswick.

This is a rewarding role in a fun working environment, working as part of a small team at our new Keswick gallery. It is a varied role of serving customers, packing mail orders, stock management, liaising with artists and assisting with our website.

We are looking for an enthusiastic person, who loves to provide excellent customer service. The ability to build a rapport with the public and to enjoy helping others is important. Gallery experience and a knowledge of art would be beneficial but full training will be given. An interest is the most important thing!

The vacancy is for 2-3 days a week, including a weekend day. There may be the opportunity for additional hours if desired and additional days to cover team holidays and busier periods like exhibition openings and Christmas will be required. Applications for a full time position are also welcomed.

The role:

· Customer focus - welcoming and making our customers feel at ease in our galleries and proactively assisting our customers to choose artwork.

· Daily operation of the gallery - opening and closing the gallery and being solely responsible for the gallery during opening hours.

· Maintaining gallery display, rehanging artwork and stock management.

. Admin tasks including emails, stock checks, data entry ect. Familiarity with excel is useful.

· Website - helping to keep the website updated with new work.,

  • work with the team in selling a variety of original art and limited edition prints, ceramics, glassware and jewellery;

  • welcome customers and proactively assist our customers in choosing artwork;

  • build good customer relations, promoting our artists and gallery;

  • deal with customer queries online, by email and telephone;

  • work on our website;

  • assist the Gallery Manager and team with administrative tasks;

  • work with the Gallery Manager and team to check and maintain stock management;

  • support the Gallery Manager and team to ensure the display is well presented;

  • adopt and encourage a work culture of respect, with an approachable and friendly environment.

    · Ideally you will have experience in retail and an interest in art, however full training on the artwork will be provided., Good communication skills

  • Self-motivation and drive

  • Basic PC skills (training will be provided for MAC and website)

  • Experience in retail and an interest in art desirable but not required (full training will be given)
