We are looking for a bright enthusiastic Speciality Doctor in Ophthalmology to join our expanding department, this individual should have a sound general ophthalmic training.

The appointee will be required to work with their colleagues in providing a high-quality service in Ophthalmology which meets the government set waiting list targets and the Trusts quality standards.

A working week for a speciality doctor is comprised of 10 programmed activities (PAs) each of which has a nominal timetable value of 4 hours.

A final job plan will be agreed with the Clinical Director after appointment dependent upon experience. Evening and weekend work is a part of this position due to the requirement to 1st on call cover of urgent care.

As a teaching hospital department you will have the opportunity to learn, train and develop the next generation of medical professionals, as well as be involved in a variety of research projects.

You will work together with the multi-disciplinary team which will include doctors, advanced clinical practitioners, optometrists, nurses and ophthalmic trainees from the peninsula deanery. Being a good team worker and leader will be essential in the role.

This post will be based in the new purpose-built REI Ophthalmology centre, the post holder will be joining an experienced team, to provide general ophthalmology and specialist activity within Medical retina or Glaucoma.

This will include supporting the team in developing improved pathways in line with national eye care recovery and transformation programme. We have an enthusiastic team of Orthoptists and Optometrists who would be working with the successful applicant to deliver improved patient pathways and working relationships with the wider medical services within UHP.

We believe in supporting the growth of the future workforce and therefore the post-holder will partake in teaching and training of AHPs.
