Futures are working in partnership with an innovative electronics manufacturer in Bradford as they seek to strengthen their Design Engineering team with the appointment of 2 new Embedded Software Engineers. We are looking for good all-rounders with exceptional Embedded C Programming skills. Some additional software capabilities in Java/JavaScript would be a bonus. This would suit a recent graduate or someone with a little Embedded experience seeking to further their knowledge and capabilities. You will have been completing real world or academic projects in Embedded C/C++ over the past 6 months. We want people to hit the ground running and learn on the job!

The role:

You will be working in a highly collaborative environment with a further 8 engineers who cover embedded, electronics and mechanical / application engineering, reporting into an experienced Product Manager. The work will be genuine end to end design - from concept through to production - so this represents a very rare opportunity to develop new products and enhance existing ones utilising high-quality code, architecture and testing procedures. It's an opportunity to learn from your teammates, try new techniques and produce embedded code to the highest possible standards.

You will be responsible for the design, development and implementation of software and firmware solutions for new product development and also provide assistance in the maintenance and improvement of existing products.

Given the nature of the work, this is a site-based position, 5 days per week near Bradford, West Yorkshire.

  • Ideal candidates will be degree qualified and have 6 months+ experience in a similar role.


  • We are seeking engineers who are confident about their ability to development clear, well documented, structured and reliable code on a variety of processors and micro-controllers.


  • You will be experienced in Fluent C.


  • You will have extensive RTOS experience and understand the challenges of working in a complex real time system.


  • You will have working knowledge of Version Control Systems - notably Subversion.


  • You will be able to assist in all stages of code design and adopt a common-sense approach to implementation.


  • An understanding of force and pressure measurement would be advantageous as would experience with precision A/D conversion and signal processing. Any exposure to DSP implementation would also be beneficial.


  • In addition - experience of the following would be advantageous:
  • VCS (SVN/CVS)


  • Serial Communications, preferably CAN Bus


  • A variety of debug and development environments


  • Working knowledge of mathematical modelling software (such as MATLAB or Simulink), Bachelor's (preferred)


  • Experience:
  • embedded software engineering: 1 year (preferred)
