At The Old Downs Care Home as a Recreation and Wellbeing Coordinator, you will enjoy being part of an exceptionally supporting team, welcoming you into providing physical, emotional, and social assistance to our residents.
The Old Downs is part of Nellsar, a family-owned company with 35 years of exceptional person-centred care experience, comprising of 13 nursing and residential care homes covering Kent, Essex and Surrey.

You will have the opportunity to excel whilst:

  • Supporting new residents with the settling in process, assisting their families and friends and maintaining continuous communication.

  • Creating and reviewing person-centred care planning documentation reflecting the residents' current needs and preferences.

  • Developing and planning programmes, outings and events, staffing the events and overseeing the implementation of activities.

  • Encouraging people to attend or join an activity, motivating them and keeping them engaged throughout events.

  • Ensuring the residents' choice is always maintained and feedback is obtained regularly, informing further Recreation and Wellbeing programmes organised in the home.

  • Supporting and enabling residents to access social networks and maintain personal interests in accordance with best practice, agreed standards, legislation and within the financial budget.

  • Maintaining the confidentiality, privacy and dignity of residents and supporting the care team in this respect.

  • Being a vital link between our residents and their families and friends, advocates or representatives.

  • Supporting and developing the Recreation and Wellbeing Team according to individual needs and following equality, diversity and inclusion principles.

  • Maintaining skills at a current level and undertaking such training and development as required to maintain and progress knowledge., We really are passionate about making every day count and bringing colour and laughter to the people living in our home, their visitors and the team supporting them. We care for residents - body, mind and soul - tailoring the things they do each day to bring a real sense of enjoyment, fun, and self-esteem.

  • Our Recreation and Well-Being Coordinator's have been specially selected for their care, compassion, and can-do attitude. The people living at The Old Downs Care Centre enjoy an extensive range of activities of their choice, assisted by the Recreation and Wellbeing Team.

  • Dedication and commitment to making a difference to others' lives.

  • Experience of working with people, in particular those that may have additional support needs e.g. people living with dementia.

  • An empathetic nature and a strong ability to communicate effectively.

  • Customer service: active listener skills, professional telephone etiquette and excellent written communication skills.

  • Leadership and organisational skills.

  • Good IT skills (Outlook, Word) and ability to use authorised handheld devices (smartphones) to record activities.

  • Experience of event planning.

  • Excellent team-work ability.
