Full Job Description

As a Residential Support Worker a role working with our Armed Forces veterans would be a hard one to beat. Our veterans have served in every campaign since the First World War, and for over a hundred years our team have been there to support them with their mental health needs. You will work with a service user group who have a real motivation to make positive changes to their lives and your experience, compassion and focus on recovery will help them to get there.

Experience of working with military and veteran populations would be welcome but it is by no means essential. Your interest, enthusiasm and commitment are more important.

You will work within a highly skilled multidisciplinary team and we will work with you to develop your skills and abilities, we know that an investment in you, is an investment in our veterans.

You will provide flexible and individualised support to meet the mental health requirements of veterans with mental health needs. Our recovery support workers are essential to the success of Combat Stress.

Some key elements of the role will include:

  • Work with the multi-disciplinary team to support veterans on a day-to-day basis with their health and wellbeing and maintain a recovery focus.

  • Supporting nursing staff with admissions and discharges into the residential programme.

  • Maintaining a safe, clean, caring and therapeutic environment to facilitate the well-being of the veterans.

  • If you are interested in joining us to contribute to developing our mental health services for veterans, then we would be delighted to hear from you.

This role is subject to a DBS check.

As a healthcare environment, and for the health and wellbeing of our staff, veterans and visitors, we encourage everyone at Combat Stress especially professionals that are veteran facing to take up the offer to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19

    What we offer:

You will work within a reputable charity that is constantly evolving to meet the needs of our veterans, that has a fantastic cause and a committed follower base.

Combat Stress is the UK's leading mental health charity for veterans. For over a century we've been helping former servicemen and women deal with issues like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety and depression. Today we provide specialist treatment and support for veterans from every service and conflict, focusing on those with complex mental health issues related to their military service. We provide a range of community, outpatient and residential mental health services to veterans with complex mental health problems. We provide services in-person, and via phone and online.
