Full Job Description

As a Post 16 Student Support Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting pupils with an EHCP for special educational needs, including social and emotional needs.

You will provide individual support to students whilst they attend our local partner post 16 colleges and at times within Yarrow Heights School.

You will be acting as a liaison between the college, student and school to enable them to access their studies effectively. You will be supporting them in the development of their independence, social and life skills through your daily interactions. You will be supporting and helping them structure their private study, identifying any educational intervention needs early on, and maintaining close communication with the Head of the Post 16 provision.

Your role will also involve promoting high aspirations among all students in our post 16 provision, contributing to a positive ethos within both the school and college environments and representing YHS as a competent professional.

Hours for this position may differ from standard School-based support roles, occasionally requiring late finishes to accommodate later start times (e.g., 8:45 AM - 4:45 PM).

Minimum GCSE, or equivalent, grade 4 or above in English and Maths.

Experience:

· Experience working with children with special educational needs, such as autism, SEMH, ADHD, is preferred.

· Training in aspects of SEN, i.e., ADHD, Dyslexia, Autism, is advantageous.

Skills and Knowledge:

· Valid driver's license required.

· Excellent interpersonal, verbal/written communication, and listening skills.

· High level of self-motivation and the ability to work on own initiative .

· Ability to work as part of a team and establish good working relationships.

· Knowledge of child protection and safeguarding procedures.

· Ability to quickly build effective working relationships with pupils and colleagues.

    Yarrow Heights School is a mixed 7-19, local authority funded, SEN day school for children, most of who are able learners with an EHCP and a diagnosis with ASC and associated needs.
