Full Job Description

The Academy Council of St Mary's Catholic Primary Academy wish to appoint a caring, reliable, calm and positive person to take the post of Nurture and Safeguarding Officer in school. The suitable candidate will be highly capable in behaviour management and pastoral care, in order to support our staff in continuing to provide our outstanding learning and behaviour management strategy within school.

You will be responsible for:

  • Working closely with SLT, SENDCo, Teachers, support staff, parents and carers to offer support to pupils with regard to wellbeing, behaviour, learning , attendance and safeguarding.

  • Training to become a member of the safeguarding team as a DSL.

  • Delivering training to staff on aspects of learning and behaviour management and providing guidance to staff at all levels with how to support our most vulnerable pupils.

  • Gaining an in-depth knowledge of our school community and families, their issues and concerns, working with them to improve attendance and learning both within and outside the school.

  • Using de-escalation techniques to resolve conflict between the school and parents.

  • Working with external agencies to improve the outcomes for our pupils.


  • The successful candidates will be required to support the Catholic ethos and to make a contribution to the extended life of the school where possible. Any additional skills that can be offered should be mentioned in the application process.
