Full Job Description

· To assist the Health, Safety and Estates Team in ensuring its 12 sites including the grounds, are fit for purpose, providing a safe environment for Patients, staff and visitors.

· To complete maintenance duties in line with procedures.

· To carry out general maintenance tasks at our sites, including minor repairs within the individual's abilities.

· To carry out preventative maintenance and testing according to the Hospice's programme, including but not limited to weekly fire alarm system test, PAT testing and record the outcomes.

· Ensure statutory requirements are met.

· To maintain all equipment to a good standard.

· To liaise with contractors/workmen whilst at sites.

· To advise the Maintenance lead / Estates team of any repairs and maintenance requiring the attention of outside contractors.

· Support internal move rounds, re arranging furniture etc.

· Where possible receive and deliver supplies within the building.

· Maintain Maintenance store areas ensuring all equipment is present and well maintained in good working order.

· To undertake any other duties as requested by the Health safety and Estates manager

· To participate in an on-call rota for the provision of out of hours response for faults and repairs.

· Maintain open communication both within and outside the team.

· Maintain departmental, patient and whole Hospice confidentiality.

· Participate in training as required.

· Participate in the annual appraisal process.

Decisions / Recommendations includes:

· Plan, in conjunction with the Maintenance Lead and Estates Team and carry out an annual programme of planned and preventative maintenance.

· To provide suggestions and recommendations for improvements to the buildings and facilities.

Dimensions and limits of authority / influence includes:

· Advise the Maintenance Lead / Estates Team of the purchase of suitable spares and equipment.

· Promote safe working practices to and for volunteers and others.

Allocation / checking of work

· Plan and organise work schedule according to agreed priorities.

· Assist with the supervision of volunteers to ensure that tasks are carried out safely.

Physical effort

· Work can involve bending, lifting and moving and may be physically demanding, especially on the knees, back, shoulders, wrists and hands.

· PPE must be worn as required by individual tasks.

· Operating of machinery and power tools, involving manual dexterity and hand/eye coordination.

Working conditions / environment

· Working both outside and inside the buildings.

· May by dirty, cold, hot or wet outside, subject to prevailing weather.

· Lone working at times.

· Working at height or in confined spaces.

· Occasional evening and/or weekend work, according to the needs of the Hospice.

· Contact with potentially distressed patients, relatives and visitors.

    · In the course of your duties, you will have access to confidential material about members of staff, volunteers, other hospice business and patients. The Hospice has Data Protection Policy which applies to all staff.

    · St Luke's Cheshire Hospice is committed to safeguarding adults and children and expects all staff to share in this commitment. Staff have a responsibility to ensure that they are aware of specific duties relating to their role and should familiarise themselves with the Hospices Safeguarding Policies. Safeguarding training is mandatory for all staff.

    Job Types: Part-time, Permanent

    Pay: Up to £24,578.81 per year
