Full Job Description

Framatome have a dedicated lifting sub-contractor for all lifting activities and the role of the Rigging AP / Black Hat will be to aid in the planning off rigging activities with the sub-contractor, review lift plans submitted by lifting by sub-contractor, and then aid in the setting to work and supervision of the works and carry out any assurance checks / audits to maintain a high standard of safety / right first time...,

  • Assist with implementation of Processes and Procedures to effectively control mechanical lifting activities for Framatome scope of works.

  • Review lift plans in accordance with Framatome & NNB Lifting Standards

  • Carry out lifting assurance checks to ensure that the lifting equipment utilised by Framatome and their sub-contractors is thorough examined (including lifting accessories)

  • Have knowledge and understanding to allow selection of appropriate rigging lifting accessories, including their method of attachment to the load, and any protection used to prevent damage

  • Oversea and liaise with subcontractor briefings to all lifting/rigging personnel prior to the lifting operation to ensure that the safe system of work described in the lift plan is understood.

  • Oversea rigging activities on site for all mechanical installation works for Framatome.

  • Ensure lift plans are reviewed and to the correct standard to ensure safe Lifting/Rigging

  • Plan resource to ensure there is a Lift/rigging Supervisor designated to direct personnel and to ensure that the operation is carried out in accordance with the lift plan

  • Investigate all hazards within the operating area

  • Liaise with any other persons or authority, as required to overcome any hazard, by including any necessary corrective action or special measures in the safe system of work

  • Produce / review Lifting plans for rigging activities

  • Ensure lifting activities comply with legislation, standards, ACOP.s and Framatome & NNB lifting standards.

  • Establish and maintain a high standard of health and safety, carry out site inspections to ensure Safe systems of works are being adhered too, with safety rules are being implemented to deliver the scope of works following a positive Nuclear Safety Culture

  • Support the Lifting Lead in the delivery of all lifting activities associated with the Framatome scope of works on Hinkley point C.

  • Support the Lifting Lead to ensure compliance with all nuclear safety and site license requirements

  • Support the Lifting Lead to ensure resource to meet organizational requirements are available in line with the delivery schedule.

  • Plus one of the following:
  • ECITB Diploma in:

  • Moving Engineering Construction Loads or

  • Engineering Construction Lifting, Positioning and Installing Structures, Plant and Equipment

  • Diploma in Moving Engineering Construction Loads at SCQF Level 6

  • ECITB Skills Test Alternative / Skills Test Number: TNL03

  • ACE Card


  • To work on Hinkley point C you will require:
  • to achieve Security Clearance (BPSS or Higher)


  • Other qualifications (preferred but not essential)
  • IOSH managing safely or SMSTS or CCNSG, Lift planning rigging operations (essential)

  • Lift planning using Mobile/Crawler/Tower cranes (preferred but not essential)

  • AutoCAD proficient (preferred but not essential

  • Experience working in nuclear power preferred, or power stations / refineries to be aware of safety culture within this industry.

  • Experience working on major construction projects (preferred)

  • Leadership - ability to plan and manage particularly people and resources

  • Independent judgement - ability to identify limits of personal and team's knowledge and skill

  • Health, safety, and welfare - a sound knowledge of legislation, hazards and safe systems of work, ability to manage health, safety and welfare within own area of responsibility

  • Interpersonal skills and communication - ability to communicate well with others at all levels, ability to discuss ideas and plans competently and with confidence

  • Results driven: Ability to persist in the face of challenges to meet deadlines with high standards

    Competent lifting person with rigging experience to assist with overseeing mechanical lifting activities associated with the installation of the primary components of the 2 nuclear reactors being installed in Hinkley Point C.
