Full Job Description

Are you passionate about libraries? Do you want to join our team of Libraries Development Officers and take our service forward, playing a central role in enabling Salford residents to benefit fully from innovation? Reporting to one of our Area and Development Managers, Libraries Development Officers are pivotal in achieving our ambitions, responsible across the city for the effective delivery of projects and the provision of library resources within key workstreams.

Enabling all children and young people to learn and reach their potential is a central priority for the libraries service and the city. In this role you would focus your attention on the early years supporting children under 5 years old and their parents and carers. Your role will include supporting and encouraging families to use the library service by providing inviting and accessible library spaces, developing an exciting programme of events and activities and ensuring we offer a diverse range of appropriate and relevant resources. You will manage a small team of Storytime Facilitators and will work with colleagues and partners to raise the profile of the Library Service within the City to ensure we are reaching the widest possible audience.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about the role libraries can play in children's lives and the impact that sharing books and developing a love of stories in the early years can have on a child's future.

As a senior member of staff you will be expected to have the knowledge and skills to support other areas of the service and to be a visible presence in libraries, providing customer-facing cover when required. You will work closely within the Development Officers team and assist colleagues to deliver on their own responsibilities.

We pride ourselves on recruiting the right people with the right values into the right roles. We are looking for professional, respectful, knowledgeable, passionate and solution-driven people to join our team as we strive to deliver excellence to our customers., You should have excellent communication and organisational skills, be reliable, flexible, agile and resilient, and above all be able to demonstrate a high level of understanding and enthusiasm for public libraries and their unique place in the lives of individuals and communities. Library qualifications and experience could be an advantage but are not essential.

Salford Community Leisure (SCL) is committed to Building a Great Place to Work.
