Full Job Description

Coroners investigate certain deaths which are deemed to be unnatural, violent, or where the cause is unknown in their district. The Barnet Coroner's Court serves the five boroughs of Barnet, Brent, Enfield, Haringey and Harrow, and Haringey Council is the lead authority and responsible for providing resources and staffing to support the Coroners and running of the court., As a Coroner's Court Inquest Assistant, you will be entrusted with high-level administrative responsibilities, crucial for the seamless operation of the Coroner's Court. Your role will involve meticulous management and progression of inquest case files, including complex cases, ensuring all necessary documentation and evidence are prepared for Pre-Inquest Review Hearings (PIRH) and inquests. You will also be expected to respond to and implement judicial directions from HM Coroner and Assistant Coroners.

You possess a robust understanding of the laws, policies, and procedures relevant to coronial jurisdiction and the Coroner's service. Your exceptional administrative and communication skills enable you to handle tasks with precision and care. You are comfortable using IT systems and software, and you approach your work with professionalism, especially when dealing with sensitive or confidential information. Your ability to work under pressure, use initiative, and interact empathically with bereaved families sets you apart. Flexibility in your working hours and a proven background in case management are essential to excel in this role.
