Full Job Description

We are looking for a Workshop Operative to join our team. This is a hands-on role where you will play a pivotal part in the manufacturing process and be a leading figure in the workshop. You will work closely with other members of the workshop team to build all bespoke projects, get them ready for delivery and communicate with our fitters to ensure a smooth installation in our clients homes. So, what does the role include?

Our Workshop Operative will receive job packs along with a cutting list for materials from our design team.

Delivering a project in line with a job pack looks like this:

  • Carefully reading through job pack instructions.

  • Communicating with the design team where needed.

  • Getting sheet materials off the storage racks.

  • Cutting MDF and melamine sheets.

  • Labelling boards.

  • Edging boards.

  • Putting various panels on the CNC machine to make doors/carcases.

  • Glueing and sanding doors and components for the job.

  • Spray painting where necessary.

  • Assembling units and putting the job together.

  • Wrapping and protecting everything ready to go out for delivery.

  • Communicating with the installation team when necessary.


  • Outside of the manufacturing process, our Workshop Operative will also be responsible for:
  • Maintaining a clean and tidy workshop environment each and every day.

  • Working closely with the Workshop Manager to ensure optimum efficiency.

  • Encouraging, motivating and supporting their colleagues.

  • Taking all health and safety protocols within the workshop extremely seriously, including assisting in daily and weekly safety checks.

  • Ensuring that all transport and equipment provided by Great British Kitchens & Interiors are kept clean, tidy and secure at all times.

  • Readying drawings and written instructions for installation and relaying key information to the fitting team.

  • Leading by example and setting a positive tone. Being vocal and forthcoming with ideas whilst being a reliable, dependable and integral part of our team.

  • Undertaking any other duties as required, from time to time.

    We are looking for an individual with practical joinery experience that demonstrates a genuine desire to learn and grow within a high-end product environment. Applicants must be confident in operating workshop machinery, although thorough training will be provided for each specialist machine. This will include a panel saw, edge bander and CNC machine.


  • Experience that is preferred, although not essential:
  • NVQ in bench joinery/wood machining or equivalent.

  • Practical professional joinery experience, ideally with high quality products.

  • Competent and confident to machine all aspects of mfc or mdf units, CNC machining of doors and other accessories ready for assembly and painting.

  • Competent and confident in installing internal components to carcases i.e. drawer boxes, corner pull outs and bins.

  • Experience or training in modern woodworking machinery and hand tools.

  • Using spray gun to spray finish painted products (water based).

  • Full UK drivers licence.

  • Operating a forklift.

  • Driving a delivery van and to help with deliveries from time to time.

    At Great British Kitchens & Interiors we create beautiful bespoke joinery. This includes kitchens, utility rooms, wardrobes, entertainment units and wine rooms, alongside many other tailor-made projects.

    Hours of work:40 hours per week - Monday to Friday 7am - 4pm (including lunch and tea breaks - 1 hour)


  • Wage: £x - £x per day depending on experience level

    Holidays: Bank holidays off and closed for the Christmas holidays (23rd December - 1st January inclusive ).

    Other time off agreed on an ad-hoc basis due to the self employed nature of the role.
