Full Job Description

To be an efficient and flexible member of the Histopathology laboratory team providing a high quality diagnostic service through supporting the scientific and technical activities of qualified members of staff.
Potentially be able to work cross site within the BCPS, the Hub site is based at Wolverhampton and ESL laboratories will be on site at Walsall Manor, Russells Hall Hospital Dudley and Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospital.
To maintain competence through Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
To work within the written Policies and Procedures of the Department especially in relation to Health & Safety and Quality, To participate in the routine duties of the Histopathology Department, as part of a team, under the direction and supervision of Biomedical Scientists (BMS 1 and above) ensuring compliance with Departmental Policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
Take part in the specimen entry process using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) (Winpath). Ensure that all samples / request forms are correctly matched and fulfil the specimen acceptance criteria of the Department. Highlight any discrepancies to a senior member of staff.
To perform accurate preparation, pre and post and analytical procedures as defined by the departmental procedures including storage of paper records and ensure that images are recorded.
To undertake manual preparation of Histological samples including:
Specimen reception and data entry.
Assisting with specimen dissection
Blocking out processed specimens
Cutting
Processor operation
Special stains
IHC support
