Full Job Description

This role is in the Compliance team of the Insurance & Protection Division of the Collinson Group and is based in the Haywards Heath Office. The principle function of this role, is to support the Compliance Audit - Assurance function, in the execution of the divisions risk-based compliance monitoring plan. The plan includes external facing audits of agents and third-party providers as well as internal reviews. The role largely, but not exclusively, involves office-based compliance audit support and administration in all stages of the audit process.

The role requires a level of relevant Insurance industry awareness and some understanding of the FCA regulatory environment contained in the FCA Handbook (eg: SYSC, ICOBS, DISP & CASS) as well as data protection legislation, insurance mediation (telephone and via web sited) & PCI rules. An appreciation of expectation of company structure in an FCA regulated entity and variations expected for an MGA, Agent / Coverholder, TPA etc.

This role is designed to help support Collinson understanding of the risk profile of its Agents and outsourced providers, ensure each Agent and outsourced provider meets its regulatory and contractual obligations whilst ensuring that all Collinson customers are being treated fairly and openly.

You will support the Compliance Officers to obtain independent and objective assurance over the adequacy and effectiveness of the processes and controls within Agents, TPAs and internal operations through measured involvement performing on and off-site reviews.

This will help you to gain and enhance knowledge and experience in audit processes, insurance operations and the regulatory environment.

Formally reporting to the Compliance Officer - Assurance the candidate is expected to have involvement in all aspects of the external agency audit and internal compliance monitoring. Including maintenance of the audit database, scope preparation, assisting in the completion of on and off -site audits, report writing and administration of the findings process., Working as part of Collinson's second line of defence, specific responsibilities for this role will include, but not limited to, support and assistance in:

  • Planning, scheduling, re-prioritising as appropriate and tracking progress of audits


  • Undertaking research to develop an audit programme of expected controls commensurate with the agreed scope of each audit


  • Where assigned, conducting on or off-site reviews of process documents and other evidence to help undertake objective and disciplined evaluation of controls


  • Taking and writing up audit interview notes, following up to address any gaps, identifying, discussing and agreeing actions where appropriate and as advised by the Compliance Officer


  • Completing audit work papers and documenting audit tests and findings


  • Chasing feedback and timely responses to agreement on audit scopes, requests for pre-audit information and management comments on draft audit reports


  • Chasing and obtaining timely responses to and sufficient evidence on actions to close audit recommendations


  • Providing appropriate and consistent answers to compliance audit related queries from the business, escalating more complicated issues as necessary


  • Where appropriate and relevant, assisting agents in developing their understanding of regulatory expectations.


  • Maintaining the compliance audit database and generating timely MI


  • Updating job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks and participating in professional organisations


  • Risk based 2nd line review of QA monitoring and results (complaints and sales)

    Some experience in compliance preferably in a personal lines insurance environment including:


  • Knowledge of FCA insurance regulation


  • Experience of working within the Compliance / Regulatory function of a General Insurer


  • Articulate and effective communicator both written and verbal with individuals internally and with external contacts


  • Ability to maintain integrity at all times and act independently and objectively o Ability to operate to strict deadlines


  • Awareness of three lines of defence framework
