Full Job Description

You will be part of the engineering function, working in our machine section, where you will have hands on experience using:

  • Turning

  • Milling

  • CNC machines to make engineering parts for the hydraulic and pneumatic industry.

  • You will be trained on how to create parts from steel that will be used in components such as motors and compressors.

  • Setting up machines prior to production as well as monitoring and correcting them as needed.

  • Conduct safety checks and performance monitoring for machining, associated equipment and surrounding work area.


  • The training you will be getting

  • The Apprentice will gain a Level 3 Machining Technician qualification

  • The Training will be delivered at Wigan and Leigh College's Pagefield Campus

  • The training will be delivered on a day release basis

    Communication skills, Attention to detail, Customer care skills, Problem solving skills, Number skills, Team working, Physical fitness, GCSE or equivalent English (Grade 4) Essential

  • GCSE or equivalent Maths (Grade 4) Essential, Health and safety is of the upmost importance in this role, as the machinery you will be working on can cause serious injury if not used correctly. You must be able to follow instructions and be aware of safety procedures. It can be quite noisy in the machine room and you will be handling various metals and tools. You must wear PPE, such as safety boots at all times
